About Me

Lynne J Thompson. Over 25 years experience with computers and computer software.
I am in my 9th year of tutoring and coaching in the adult learning sector. Prior to that I have worked in PA and secretarial roles, temporary and permanent, both in private and public settings.

The NHS in Birmingham and Dudley, Birmingham University, Birmingham City Council,National Machinery UK, are just some of the organisations I have worked for. This has furnished me with a comprehensive knowledge regarding performing administration and general office tasks, office management, project management and event organising.

A former IT tutor with Worcester College of Technology for over 3 years, delivering Learndirect programmes in beginners computing and Microsoft Office applications. Both face to face and within an e-learning setting. It is here that I discovered my aptitude for coaching and mentoring.

I enjoy working with computers and can be a bit of gadget geek, but most people see IT as something they have to do, not what they want to do. I realised that through the coaching and skills building, people who are not so keen on IT, or dread the idea of a training settings, would gain more benefit from this approach.

Qualifications

Microsoft certified Expert and Specialist in Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook, and ECDL qualified.

I hold a 2.1 BA Hons degree in History and Renaissance Studies, and have since been engaged in a number of postgraduate studies concerning teaching and learning, primarily adults. I am currently researching in the areas of E-Learning, Coaching, Mentoring and Special Needs Education at Masters level.

My husband Dr David W Thompson who lectures in Education Studies is guiding me through this research. I am also a member of various online forums and websites, where I keep up to date with coaching, training methods, e-learning, computer software developments and the subjects that I tutor.

Voluntary Work

For Age UK Dudley, I design and deliver 2 IT sessions on a Monday.  The first is a Beginners IT course, where I introduce computers using Windows 7. This lasts for 10 weeks. The main aim of this course is to ensure at the end, that learners can use the Internet safely to find out information and operate videos embedded on websites.  Also for learners to be able to send and receive e-mail.

The second session is more for people wanting to gain intermediate abilities. This includes looking at social networking websites Facebook and Twitter and using them in safety.  An introduction to Video Conferencing using Skype.  Ebooks and Ebook readers (what is available to read for free), downloading music to an iPod,  Maintenance and Safety equipment and online, are just some of the topics I cover.

If you are charity and would like some support from me, be it for your clients and staff, please do get in touch.  I currently hold an enhanced CRB disclosure
